Session Description :

Sgt Brittle of the Malyestsa Royal Guard here:

The family and corporation of the El-Malvomen has been a thorn in the law of Rhoegr for nearly 2 centuries now. Ruthless and paranoid, they are a tricky bunch to pin down, but we might have done it.

However, our operative has been captured.

We had a plant in Yotheb El-Malvomen's ranks for nearly a year now. They requested extraction about a week ago, but we discovered she was captured almost immediately afterwards. She has information that could topple Yotheb's whole branch of the family tree.

However, the constabulary is probably being watched by the family, so we're coming to you. Your first priority: rescuing our operative. Failing that, get the information they have to give.

If you succeed in rescuing our agent: 7500 total to your guildmembers. If you get the information, but leave our comrade behind: 4000 to your guildmembers. Regardless, we will turn an extremely blind eye to any missing items on El-Malvomen property.

*PS: Stealth and subtlety is ESSENTIAL

*PPS: After deep consultation with Big Brass, we have decided stealth and subtlety is, in fact, not essential. But, if you choose the loud route, send a message. A loud, clear, echoing message that leaves a smoke cloud. All methods of sufficient effectiveness are condoned.

(Note from Adam: This is a largely non-combat mission. Naturally, if you fuck up that could lead to combat. The methods of retrieving the agent is up you you, but combat is not advised.)

Session Summary :

The Squad: Elaine, Sav, and Mopli.

The Mission: the Rhoegn guard has had a plant in the el-Malvomen family for a couple years, and she sent word that she has vital information that could topple the whole empire, and also that she needed immediate extraction. Alas, when the cops' extraction team arrived, she had already been found out, captured, and moved. Suspecting a plant in their own organization, they're sending us to extract her from her new location, a casino in Malvomen called the Bird of Paradise.

After some riding, some snooping, some shopping for suitable clothes, and after checking our weapons at the door, we entered the casino and started snooping. There were… a lot of birds. The mobsters were all pigeons. Yotheb “youcomehereonthedayofmydaughter’swedding” el-Malvomen was there. Asulyat, the dapper tiefling Fey Adept from that mission where we stole the quarry for Thom’s theatre was there. A kobold in suspenders and a nice hat (called “the Fixer”) (the kobold was the Fixer, not the hat) (actually I dunno maybe the hat is also called the Fixer) (I didn’t ask) was there. Our target was there too! In one of the private rooms (the high roller loxodon wasn’t happy about that). With a fair bit of hmm… company. Y’know, to keep her safe.

Much sneaking was done (some of it very slowly) (Elaine has a Chameleon spell that lets her hide in plain sight, but she can only move 5 ft. per round while maintaining it), as was much bluffing at the slushy bar. And some gambling, but that wasn’t particularly related. Regardless, after scoping out the back rooms, we had Sav make a distraction at the private slushy bar (the old “looking for the bathroom” con. Never fails!) while Elaine and Mopli snuck over to the private room with our target and Mopli got the lock. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the trap, which shot them with a dart and alerted the Fixer who had placed the trap. The jig, such as it was, was up! Roll initiative!

The ensuing fight was what we in the business call a “clusterfuck”. Tight quarters, and we needed to get a squishy civilian out from behind several burly mobsters and out of the building. Many attacks of opportunity were provoked, at least one gun was fired, Mopli, having left their rubber chicken collection at the door, started collecting the mobsters’ butterfly knives. Sav extracted the target, Elaine did her best to clear her a path, and the mobsters kept converging. Mopli dropped an Instant Foam to block a hallway for a while (very helpful!) and Sav managed to get the (now unconscious) target out of the building by jumping off of the second floor balcony. Mission accomplished! And then the head of security showed and stunlocked Mopli. Sadly, Elaine was not able to help, and complimented the Fixer’s hat as she jumped off the balcony. The Fixer replied “I will find you. No matter how far you go, I will find you, and I will get you a nice hat if it costs me your life!”

Mopli was offered the chance to surrender, which they did. So we’re gonna try and get them back next week! I’m sure it will be just as much of a disaster.

Oh and the important information was a list of everyone the el-Malvomen family had blackmailed into working with them, and how they were blackmailed. With this, the cops can start undoing those ties and weaken the el-Malvomen’s power. Good shit!
