Session Description :

Laindra has put in a request to the FGC. She's served the military for about 20 years now and is seeking to retire. Yet there is one thing she has to do before she can leave, and that is to take down the thieves guild. She has a plan, but unfortunately, she will need the assistance of those within the FGC. There has been a rash of recent robberies by members of the thieves guild. She's managed to find a pattern within the chaos and hopes to exploit it to help lead her to the top of the food chain. Now that she has a lead, she requires your assistance to help in pursuing it.

This will span over multiple sessions though it won't happen week after week after week.

Session Summary :

The Squad: Belle, Barry Brown, Jack Tue, Merrick, Xapf, and Samson

The Mission: Laindra, the commander of the guard in Malyesta, is retiring soon and she aims to permanently eliminate the Thieves Guild before she does so. This will be a many step process, but Laindra briefed us on this stage of the operation personally. A pair of wealthy Valish merchants are in town for the next week, two brothers who deal in historical books and artifacts. Based on previous patterns, these thieves were quite likely to hit them. We were to catch at least one of them, presumably for interrogation.

What followed was several days of stakeout. We tailed their party out of their residence at the Palace of Penitence, to the bazaar, to their evening meal, and back, for four days. Jack, not equipped for stealth, watched the Palace instead.

On the fourth day, the thieves began their heist. At the Palace, Jack (cooperating with Thrummund) was posing as a normal guard, patrolling the floor where the merchants’ rooms were. He heard a crash from the opposite direction of the rooms, and caught a thief via the now patented special Guild-only technique, “Concerned Citizen Shove”. This one was a distraction, but Jack dealt with him faster than they anticipated and was able to catch the thief in the merchants’ rooms in time as well.

In the bazaar, Belle had split off to tail an individual we had seen there on all previous days. A Tiefling with a tetsubo and an Oni mask ran up to the merchants’ stall, struck down both of the merchants’ guards, grabbed an armload of books, and ran. Barry and Merrick gave chase. Belle observed her mark's reaction was to panic, and began to pursue the brazen thief, but passed by the injured and decided to aid them instead. This was fortunate, as was her high Perception check to spot a key being mysteriously lifted from one of the merchant's pockets. Belle, Xapf, and Samson quickly brought down the invisible thief, whose invisibility did not save her from a single blow. Thus, we caught everyone involved, and turned them over to Laindra for our pay.
